Week 1, Wednesday - (Detective) Reapers

[Once again, Mary is calling everyone for a meeting. This one is somewhat spontaneous, following the completion of the week's mission as soon as it's not too conspicuous to be getting together in private.]

Everybody, everybody! I found a report in Wildkat that I think we'd all want to hear! Are you paying attention, are you ready? It talks about entry fees, and how Reapers don't have them! Of course, we already know about that, but I thought it would be important that we all know that Yusuke, Madara, and Sinbad have all seen it and will probably tell others if they don't make a big public announcement. Cat's outta the bag!

Is that so? Then we'll just have to take care not to slip up about ours.

Did you talk to them about it, Mary? It would be unfortunate if you got implicated for hiding information that was going to be put forward anyway. Someone picking you off or lynching you wouldn't be any good at all.

Whaaaat? Why would anyone want to do a thing like that? I'm a helpful girl who wouldn't hide anything from anybody, and if I ever forget, it's just because I don't understand how important this game is and was really excited about playing with the puppy! I'd neeever do anything bad, not on purpose!

[He laughs warmly and pats her hair.]

You're right, you're right. How could anyone ever think badly of you? It was silly of me to doubt you getting away with it.

You really do think it'll be okay, don't you?

[She pauses.]

I'm just glad one of us was able to find a key to get in there. I'm sure one of those other three will ultimately spread the information back to us, but just in case, it's good that we know how much the others know, too.

[Mary just hopes that they can keep that up.]

You're a child, and a likable at one at that — I wager you'll be fine. Just try to be a little less morbid around the others, alright?

[ he sighs, going over this newfound information in this head. ]

Our acts need to remain airtight, in any case. There is no room for a mistake from this point and onward — we keep our own lies consistent and press on the slightest inconsistency anyone else exhibits.

You might be able to get away with it if you say your family trained you to like blood, or something. A lot of people are sensitive, sure, but they're also way more sensitive to a kid who's been taught the wrong things by the people they should trust.

[He feels awful for suggesting this, but...]

Yeah, I think so, but it's important we be careful. [hair RUFFLE] It's better if we make sure that we all take the minimal amount of risks in this thing. That's why I want to cultivate as many pieces for us as possible.

[She always feels like she's done something to be proud of when she gets one of those hair ruffles.]

Actually - can't we use that? Ichigo can have a big ol' brag about how right he was. Might make him look more credible if he starts making up theories about Reapers. And if those get proved wrong, that makes him look less suspicious?

That's if they don't kill him this week for making that statement last trial.

Well... The plus side of him being so bad at lying is that you can tell he's being sincere. I think people trust him. I think people want to trust him.

I mean, if it comes to light - then yeah, I'm fine with acting surprised that I was right. Like I said, I was already planning to suggest stuff that wasn't right, so...

[He shrugs.]

If I'm considered trustworthy, then I guess that's a good thing. I was planning on holding back a bit in the next trial, anyway.

[withsadness]

No, no, no! Be your same earnest self! People love you that way! It's good to charm people!

I agree, actually. You need to be careful about what you slip up and reveal you know - but people trust you when you're being earnest and enthusiastic.
