Week 5, Thursday - Ice Cream Party!

[Who knows when they're going to have an ice cream Parlor and a working McFlurry machine in the same week ever again. Since...their numbers are going to be slimmer in the morning, Mary devised a plan! Everyone currently still playing in the Reaper Game will at some point within the earlier half of the day find themselves given a hand-drawn invitation to come have fun in Mint to Be before curfew. Even Max gets an invite, somehow! She'll make it happen.

Everything is basically normal here, except that she has spread glitter on the tables for dramatic effect (yes she's been holding onto this all month) and has posted a hand drawn sign that proudly proclaims PARTY HERE!!! So come get ice cream, share, have fun! Let's celebrate the magic of friendship and probably cry!]

[This is too cute, wtf. Seizaburo hasn't actually worked up the nerve to eat from the ice cream parlor until now, but this seems fine... so, time to taste a scoop of the reddish-brown stuff.]

...oh! It tastes like azuki beans!

Which one?

(He's a child in a candy shop. Or an ice cream shop, rather. But look, he's already sticking a spoon in Seizaburo's ice cream while shoving his own over towards him. Look, it's chocolate.)

[Holds out a little cup of azuki ice cream!! ...and the spoon stabs it. Fine, time to sneak a taste of his chocolate!

Mutsunokami-san! This is so good! Is all of the food from the future like this?

(Just going to help himself then! Ah, as soon as he tries it, his eyes go wide and he's practically sparkling. Oh, no! It's the familiar taste of azuki beans but in a new form. This is the perfect example of old things changing for modern tastes!)

Ya bet it is! And there's enough for everyone! No one's ever gotta be hungry in the future!

[Seizaburo's eyes are wide. How prevalent restaurants here in Shibuya are kind of hinted at it, but-]

Truly? That's wonderful!

[withsadness]

What what what? What's an azuki bean?!

[But she gets a spoon and goes in for a taste. It's...tasty?! But all ice cream is tasty by nature, probably. Still, she squeals happily when it hits her tongue. A happy Mary!]

It's used in a lot of desserts where I come from! Here—

[Seizaburo starts to pass the rest of the bowl over to Mary. If she likes it so much, she can keep this one! ...only, with Mary occupied with getting the bit from the spoon into her mouth, the timing is probably bad.

Uh, sorry about the ice cream all over your dress.]

—oh no! Mary-chan, I'm sorry, I'll clean that up right now! And I'll get you a new one!

[HURRYING OFF TO DO JUST THAT where are the paper towels]

[Mary's so startled by what happens that she doesn't even think to move as the ice cream slides and smears down her shirt front.]

Oh no! Oh no!

[The way she says it, it's almost like she's just echoing Sei. Her hands come up to wipe it off of herself, but she just makes a bigger mess.]

It's cold and sticky! Ooooh, my dress!

[well, seizaburo sure feels guilty. rushing back with some stuff to try and clean mary's dress... but there's no getting rid of that stain, that much is obvious.

...oops, better clean up Mary's hands too]

I'm so sorry, Mary-chan... and this was a really nice dress, too...

It's okay...it fell out of the sky, so I didn't pay any money for it.

[That would've been the real bummer.]

You weren't kidding, it's azuki beans. Neat! [You sure seemed excited about this, Seizaburo. Kanji smiles a bit] What, you never had azuki bean ice cream before?

No... it's not common in my time.

[Seizaburo's eyes are all lit up, though.]

But it's truly delicious! I'm glad to have had the opportunity to try it. Which flavor is your favorite, Tatsumi-san?

[Kanji browses the extensive amount of ice cream there is. Mary did such a good job gathering all this!]

Here, take this one. Strawberry and--there's also this one, it has some nuts in it. These are kinda common flavors, but there's nothing bad about goin' for something classic.

A classic, huh...

[Time to try them. ...and, yep, they're also delicious. Seizaburo is going to end up with a stomachache at this rate.]

I wish Sensei could try these! He would definitely love them...

If you're lucky maybe you'll be resurrected with a few containers of ice cream to take home.

[Lenka's already whisker-deep in what looks like... actually, it's green bean ice cream, because I make way too many jokes about green being his character color. Anyway.]

There's a lot of bean ice cream, isn't there?

Beans are good for desserts! Azuki bean paste is one of my favorites, actually...

[But what's that green stuff you're eating, Lenka...]

...which one of the green ice creams is that?

[Mint, matcha, green bean... pistachio... there are a lot more green desserts than Seizaburo would have ever thought possible.]

This one's green bean. I like it better than azuki.

I've tried some of the other green ones. The mint isn't that good.

[It was probably spearmint. The worst betrayal in the world, actually.]

It's lighter than azuki. A little less sweet?

[He's having trouble differentiating at this point, even someone with a sweet tooth would after a week of this. Lenka wrinkles his nose at the thought of mint.]

... The mint tastes like toothpaste.

[yeah guess what they don't have in seizaburo's canon. THEY DO HAVE BRUSHES. just. not toothpaste. toothpaste came later.]

Most toothpastes are mint. What flavor did you have?
